Health monitoring package combining bacteriology, parasitology and molecular diagnostics.

External examination for lesions and ectoparasites (Tape test of pelage).

Euthanasia and sample collection for serology if required (-additional costs applied).

Necropsy and description of lesions found. If lesions are present, samples will be taken for further analysis. Submitter will be contacted for approval to proceed - Histopathology charged seperately by number of slides processed.

Nasotracheal wash taken. Nasotracheal wash retained for Mycoplasma PCR if required

Bacteriology culture of NT wash (CO2) and caecal contents (Aerobic) for detection of: B.bronchiseptica, Citrobacter rodentium Corynebacterium kutscheri, Klebsiella spp, Pasteurella spp, Pseudomonas spp, Proteus spp, Salmonella spp, Streptobacillus moniloformis, Staphylococcus (coag +ve), Streptococci (β haem), Streptococcus pneumoniae.

PCR if indicated by culture plates for: Citrobacter rodentium, Pasteurella spp, Pasteurella pneumotropica

Flush through and gross examination of intestinal contents for helminths.

Cellophane tape test for pinworm eggs

Wet mount preparation of GI mucosal scrapes for protozoa including Eimeria spp, Spironucleus spp, Giardia spp, Trichomonas spp.

Faecal flotation test for detection of pinworm (Syphacia spp and Aspiculuris spp), other worms and eggs.

Histology (Mice): Kidney, Liver, Lung, Stomach, Duodenum, Ileum, Caecum, Ascending Colon - further samples will be taken if lesions noted on necropsy

Histology (Rats): Kidney, Liver, Lung+Trachea, Salivary Gland, Harderian Gland, Bladder, Stomach, Duodenum, Caecum, Ascending colon.

Collection of additional samples for follow up testing/diagnosis if required (samples retained for one month prior to discard): lung+trachea, spleen,  mesenteric lymph node, liver,  caecum and salivary gland.
 

Package for Immunocompetent mice used as soiled bedding sentinels combining bacteriology, parasitology, serology and molecular diagnostics.

Please Note: Soiled bedding sentinels are most effective when used to detect organisms spread by the oral/faecal route and have been shown to be less effective in the detection of organisms spread by aerosol and contact. This package concentrates on organisms most likely to be transmitted by the oral/faecal route.
