Sample Handling

Samples which are being transported overnight on the same day as they were collected can be shipped at 4˚C using approved transport containers and cool packs or ice.

All other samples should be shipped frozen, preferably using an overnight service. Two to four cool packs or 0.5 – 1kg of ice are usually adequate depending on the type of container, the number of samples and the ambient temperature.

Generally it is not necessary to ship using dry ice, however during hot summer conditions it may be advisable to do so. If you choose to ship on dry ice, please ensure that all shipping and transport box requirements are met.

Handy Hint: Optimal shipping conditions can be achieved by freezing the entire package with its lid open at -20˚C or lower overnight prior to pick up.

Please note: To assist in speedy processing of your samples we would advise that all serum samples be submitted in push-top or screw top 1.5 mL vials. Ensure that sample vials/tubes are sealed and airtight to avoid leakage.

Label samples clearly using an indelible marker or other waterproof means of identification. Samples should be placed inside a plastic bag or immobilised in some other fashion.

Include a Submission Form or letter with the samples detailing the species, serum dilution (if applicable), serology panel or individual test(s) required. Submission forms can be downloaded from our website www.cerberus.net.au in PDF format or alternatively submissions can be made online.

We would also appreciate a description of any bio-hazards associated with the samples.

Please use a separate serology submission form for each different species of animal and serology panel or group of tests requested

Please contact Cerberus for more details.
